As you know, I visited Los Angeles last week for the world premiere of Oz the Great and Powerful. It was an amazing experience and there are many more posts that I will share with you over the next couple of weeks. While I was there, Disney Animation Studios had a entire day of Wreck-It Ralph fun for us!
We were able to learn a lot about the movie and how it became (which I will share with you soon). One thing we were able to learn about was the Motion Capture Video. This was so awesome!
There are these infrared sensor tracking devices placed around the room. These sensor trackers pick up the motion of what you are doing. These are things I had never thought about before but considering animations are animated and not live, there would have to be a way.
Then you have this tripod with some areas for you to handle the machine and some sensors on it. These sensors show your movement to the trackers up above then incorporate your movement into the animation. There are other contraptions that have sensors on it as well. You can see a variety of them in the last video that was provided by Mommy Wants Freebies. That video will explain more of what I’m talking about. I like to keep it simple.
Above you can watch me get my hands on this thing! Yes, they let me touch it. I almost felt like I was a sniper in a video game; however, this was much easier to control. I have a hard time grasping the coordination it takes to control the video games. It was super fun and I could have totally sat there and played with it all day long.
In this video you can hear the experts talk about the process and how it really works. It was super fun and extremely fascinating but if you really want to hear the technical terms and such, be sure to watch this video.
Even though I was provided an all expense paid trip by Disney in exchange for this post, all thoughts and opinions expressed are those of my own.
