R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: Grampires Halloween Party!

R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: The Series is a half-hour storytelling television show that will give your family members of all ages the "edge of your seat" thrill. The Haunting Hour: The Series will air a creepy, new episode every week on The Hub. This show will be enjoyed by both parents and their children. This series is inspired by the creator of "Goosebumps," R.L. Stine.

Recently, I was chosen to throw a "Haunting Hour: Grampires” party! My daughter is at that age where she loves stuff like this. I don’t mind considering it’s not something that keeps her up at night. We were provided some neat goodies for the party including "Haunting Hour" T-shirts, glow-in-the-dark slap wrist slap bands, bumper stickers and glow-in-the-dark vampire fangs. My daughter was excited to share the cool swag with her friends. On the other hand, I was excited about the slap bands. They were so ‘rad’ when I was younger! *I love that I caught my daughter being a ‘vampire’ in this picture. I didn’t even notice it until I was writing this post*

"Grampires" is a two part series that follows Mike and his sister, Cristen, while they show up to visit their grandpa (Christopher Lloyd) unexpectedly at his new creepy retirement community. They soon realize that something is not right with their Grandpa and his elderly neighbors. eventually leading to a showdown at the bingo hall with an entire community of vampires (aka retirement community residents).

When I first put the Grampires DVD in, I was going to clean up and go about my business while the others watched the show. That didn’t happen. I’ll be honest, I thought it was going to be some canny thriller that made you laugh rather than be scared. I was so wrong. I was on the edge of my seat and I could never predict what was going to happen next. When I read "to be continued" I was happy we had the second part. I’m too impatient to wait. All the kids seemed very interested (even the hubby was too). My hubby actually wrote a guest post here on Mom With a Dot Com sharing his thoughts – be sure to check it out. Leave some feedback if you want… it’s his first time posting here!

For the party, I had snack type foods. We had it right after lunchtime but before dinner; therefore, I didn’t think a full meal was necessary. But every party needs something so I put out a some barbecue and plain chips.

We planned the party for the weekend before Halloween so I went with a Halloween theme for the decor. It seemed fitting. Not to mention, I already had everything I would need. So I didn’t have to buy decorations. I love cutting costs when I can.

Within the centerpiece, I had a yummy bowl of candy corn and marshmallow pumpkins. I attempted to scare people with the spider wen they grabbed a napkin – nobody really fell for it.

I also made cupcakes for the party. They were so delicious. I used the Funfetti cake mix along with Chocolate Marshmallow Duncan Hines Frosting Creations. I topped them marshmallow cream pumpkins and stuck a spider cupcake topper in them. By the way, this is now my new favorite frosting.

During the party, we played a couple of games. It was a nice day outside so we took the party to the outdoors. We had a fun sack race. They had a lot of fun. There were a couple of falls but, luckily, nobody got hurt.

The girls had a lot of fun playing around with their Grampire swag and spending time together during the party. I love when I can give kids the opportunity to build strong friendships.

Even though I’m not sure they knew exactly how to talk with them in their mouths, they had a lot of fun with the glow-in-the-dark vampire teeth. I will say there was drool on the floor that I cleaned up. That was kind of gross but I’m a mom, so it didn’t bother me too much.

Funny story, even though they don’t have cars, they loved the bumper stickers. Somebody must have left theirs behind because we ended up with three here at home rather than just one. There is now one on the front of my son’s bedroom door and ours. I’m not sure who put them there. Apparently, they are Grampire fans.
Everyone had a great time. We had some kids that were new to The Hub and others that knew everything about The Hub. After the party, it was time for me to relax. And, yes, we have watched the Grampire series again since the party has been over. It really was a good series.

I was selected to be a MommyParties host as part of a promotional program with MomSelect. All opinions are my own.
